Cellscape

Cellscape - a sculptural field or terrain defined by cellular geometry. Organic and calculated. Generated from code but grounded in material.

This sculptural panel explores form and depth through a digitally generated Voronoi mesh. A smooth, undulating surface transitions from dense, intricate cells at the center to larger, open forms at the edges. Varying depths (0.5"– 1.5") create rich shadow play and shifting visual texture.

Partition

Designed in Grasshopper, initial prototypes using image based definitions on flat plywood revealed structural weaknesses and abrupt geometric transitions.

Through continued experimentation, a point attractor based definition was developed revealing intricate, gentle concave forms.

The final mesh was digitally fabricated on reinforced plywood creating a dense and compatible CNC milling surface translating algorithmic logic into a sculpted form enriched by grain texture and material contrast

In 2018, the University of Colorado Boulder recognized the sculpture with a Digital Design and Fabrication Award, honoring the team's contribution to advancing innovation within the program for Environmental Design.

It was later donated to the program’s Office of Admissions, where it remains on display as a permanent showcase of student-driven innovation.
